The Bone Realm
A new winter In the first of summer and
a sullen settles in the spirit of the grey trees.
The grey trees. I’ll walk through here when I’m abandoned.
They’ll give up on me. I’ll be wearing new shoes
on my feet, wearing a sandwich in my stomach, stuck
outside my stomach. That’s what they tell me.
God will save my bones, my fingers, white for this.
Digging.
Every moment stops, and I’ll come back to this.
I’ll still be here when this moment is reopened, dug
up and reanimated, sailing rotten tatters of its former flag.
Its the only way to go home, Don’t you know.
I’m up and down this path by night, so slow, so slow
that I’m a fixture, slowly in your footsteps, living
the love of your lie. Being in your flat wake, so
long gone, so long gone, you’re never even a whisper
in these ice lands.
One hand turns cold when I see you, one hand shakes,
the singing hand is voiceless, my wrist turning over
In its bracelet like a bone. Trapped.
I’ll hang your cold skins about me for a shelter, for this while,
and your bones hold secrets I can cook with, they can feed me
while I wait this winter out, grimace at your carrion.
Walking through a perfect town, summer in my winter,
not a pin drops, not a grey ghost goes through, no summer
sky holds signs. Its grey, Its sullen. All summer
I’ll be writing of you, in a journal. I’ll be thinking of you.
My speaking box and singing voice will hurt,
I’ll be wanting you.
They’re the nerves beneath my skin.
