Silent Enemy
From my window,
a foreign land,
ducks and geese
back-paddling fast flow.
Imprisoned in the familiar,
I seethe frustration,
long to dance the lawn,
rain-wash my face.
Invisible hands restrain:
to venture out – mad panic.
Why can't I soar
with dragonflies?
I remember
green willows curtain-
hanging the swollen Thames,
Vivaldi drifting from the house.
Now the willow
weeps for me, thunder cracks
in blackened skies,
and why?
Your surprised expression.
Your matter-of-fact act of dying.
Your invisibility,
my loss.
