in the dream
a Birmingham morning
full of drizzle
for a week
they’ve cleared rubble
from bombsites
high fences
keep out hacks
and the morbid
the city’s howling
wants Irish blood
yours will do
today you’re going
to return to school
the first time
since the blasts
to be dragged
half-naked
down a corridor
and kicked
it will happen
just before you wake
