Above the persistent
tsk, tsk, tsk of a walkman,
intent on deafening the listener,
the Armani-clad ass rears its
pretty head
again. Filling the carriage...
"D'ya know wha' I mean?"
"Sharon won't get married."
"No?"
"Can't blame her
for wanting to get on her feet."
Imagining what's going on
in the houses and towns
we pass.
Babies being born, newlyweds
arriving home
to test the furniture.
Fat, sweaty men in
bulging braces, stumbling
forwards-backwards, right-left,
overgrown toddlers, Budweiser clutched in each hand.
Synthetic yellow light dripping
down the plastic walls
is not
enough.
"Thank-you for travelling on
Virgin trains."
I want
to get off now.
Pull the cord.
Spend indefinite amounts of time
walking home in the rain.
Trying to figure out where the
Hell I am.
"Would you like any refreshments?"
"Ta-ra then."
"Aye. All the best."
