With the River.
I take my poison from the boys on the bank.
They watch and whistle at me as the river whines and sighs
And wonders a great many number of whys
Into the night’s absence of light.
I tread the thread of the river’s black ribbon.
It unravels itself quite like my mind.
Happiness, I know, has had its day,
I saw it slip through my fingers quick as a fish,
And right there on the river bank perish.
My steps take me dangerously close to the edge,
And the river rustles its watery warning
Almost haughtily as it laps at my feet.
The black of my blood has blot
Out the moon like a mother’s love.
The stars are spent,
Their many bright eyes shut off
High up in the sky.
They do not wish to watch me step
From my despair and into my demise -
Into the damp blanket of my
Winding, sighing, lying blood red river
Bed of death.
The waves rush in to surround my head
Fierce as wolves yet to be fed.
