The Knights’ Valediction
Mysterious is the force that compels
arrogance to call down fate.
Men become that which negates them.
Heroes fall from the sky like rain.
A spell seems to be cast over everyone.
Splinters left by vanished torture instruments
may well be stuck under everyone’s nails.
Magic hides this collective mischief from everyone.
Every one of us pledges allegiance to lie
with vizor tilted back
out under the hellish laughter of the stars
as the funnel clouds begin to blow up wild
and wave to the mechanical animals we’ve left behind
to remember us to the legend.
