boats huddle together
on harbour mud
like orphaned baby seals.
At noon
the visiting prison psychologist
fillets his sole meunière
and over a good Muscadet sur lie
discusses incest
with the prison doctor.
How no length of time
behind bars can change
behaviour.
But where are our notions
of good and bad?
Even so, an offending father
is needed
in his family.
The doctor orders
crême brûlée
while boats
juggle about
and nudge
and rub shoulders
on the rising tide.
