Spring Thaw
A child at play
is a true thing of beauty
post romantic
more than imagism, but
an image within itself,
an open idea
like my own western belief
that killing Hutus is bad,
just as killing Tutses is
equally bad,
an ideology that
springs as I succumb to
the kind coming of the crease,
but there, under ski-mountain
upon the fresh growing grass
amidst spring celebrating
the banishment of the long
Hokkaido snows,
She’s the subject of whispers;
her mother judged:
It’s six o’clock in the eve
& still she’s there enjoying
the solid landscape, sunshine,
alone.
Elsewhere
increasingly younger minds
are being pumped: after-school
classes mark the starting-line
of opportunity.
Or so the theory goes.
