Universal Education
What you have here are all classes,
from the idle rich to peasants, all
of whom think they are educated
because they have a college degree.
You have children who pound down
on keyboards punishing the innocent,
who will never know how to count
on their toes. And it is no revelation
that the computer has added nothing
to the overall wisdom of mankind.
Still, you want it, even though geometry
was born in the sand, and hydrostatics
came to life in a bath full of water.
You want it, thinking that knowledge
is power although you will never know
that bulls are colour blind, that ancient roads
still itch under the layers of asphalt. And,
the deeper you get into this new world,
the smaller it, and you become. True
curiosity is becoming a rare thing, because
there are so many facts. And the more you
swallow, the more your world opens, but
even when you reach that time, when
your penis is shrivelled, and your testicles
pulverised, you will still be light years away
from anything that could be called learning
from experience, your own and others’,
wisdom. But, really, what do you, or will you
care, content and complacent, fed and watered
for doing the job you were trained to do.
