Haiban

When I am home surrounded by tired brick and tied to nature by a square of
lawn this will stay with me. The sand still warm under bare feet, and at
the terminus between sea and sky a huge sun shimmers into life. I feel
the breeze and watch the colours of the early morning erupt like a
carnival across the sky.

the sky rises from the sea
I watch alone

A fishing boat turns to beat against the tide. It leaves a trail of
spreading oil on the sea. Rearing up against the waves nose rising and
falling it pushes out to deep water as people start to emerge from close
packed hotels.

silent battle
boat beats against the waves
searching for fish

Now the noises begin, the shouting and loud talking. The sound of games,
of children, of vehicles building up along the nearby road. All the
holiday sounds of strangers trying to claim a patch of sun dried beach.
A plane passes overhead, on its way to war.
