Still My Mother
After death,
she is still my mother,
though they carry her
zipped in a bag,
to Coach Houses Road.
The smell of the sea comes from there,
and the church she blitzed
with Dettol after the fire,
then planted a tree
in the ruined garden.
Jennifer Copley lives in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria. She has poems published in a wide selection of journals and is completing an MA in Creative Writing.
