Finger, mending
It throbs,
feeling nothing
but the inside.
No touch from this finger,
cut, warped,
scabbed, itchy.
It oozes a pale orange glaze,
drips, hardens.
Shellac skin.
Moon patterns form on the crust.
The colours change,
ushering in a new fingerprint.
Taut, shining beneath the yellow callous,
slivers of pink ginger.
Rawness reveals itself.
The finger is awkward, apart.
It wants to follow the others.
It’s outside their range.
As touch returns,
the pack animal
loses its separate memory.
