Sliding windows
The eye moves down
from coco-thatch,
through paper sky,
brushwork of leaves,
the sea a gleam
between the characters
of crippled trunks,
to spilt magenta
petals on wet stones.
Above, the fan’s
flicker of blades
circles the day
from fighting cock
to child crying
and the page stirs:
a wave begins
to swell, aromas
breathe, lean
towards water
as a fattened drop
plummets from thatch
to palm-leaf,
making it shiver.
Tomorrow
an uncut chapter.
