The Voice
Life in the cruel machine, wearing
as planets grow smaller, rounder,
the same, till the dance stops.
Small survivors huddle for warmth,
to a dying sun. Outside are giants,
indifferent to ice.
Is there a voice, defying even
such degrees of emptiness, spanning
absence? An echo heard on Uranus,
whispered in sulphurous fogs of the dead?
