Stuart Pickford
Stuart Pickford has received an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors. His first full collection, The Basics, was published by Redbeck Press and shortlisted for the Forward Best First Collection. Paul McDonald wrote of The Basics in Poetry Quarterly Review: ‘there isn’t a weak piece in the collection. He has a subtle style…and his phrasing is immaculate’. Stuart has recently read and led workshops at literary festivals in Bradford, Chester, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York. His poetry has appeared in
magazines such as Fire, Outposts, Staple, The Honest Ulsterman, The Poetry Review, Seam and Tears in the Fence. He has an MA in Creative Writing from Leeds University. Stuart lives in North Yorkshire where he teaches in a local comprehensive school. He is married with three children.
Dave Tipton, Editor of Redbeck Press
Redbeck Press has been running for over twenty years publishing over 120 books and pamphlets, and for the last ten years has produced ten to twelve titles a year. Dave Tipton is assisted by his editorial/advisory team which includes his partner, Jane Ramsden; Bradford novelist Bill Broady; poet and journalist Jim Greenhalf; and Debjani Chaterjee, who advises on South Asian poetry and on publicity. He describes the sort of poetry he publishes as accessible, and does not like deliberately obscure poetry. Recent examples include Exposures by Michael Tolkein - subtle poems about contemporary life; Take it Easy by Jim Burns, which is sharp and
conversational; and In the Hinterland by Jim Greenhalf which contains hardhitting political poems. Redbeck also publishes anthologies of poetry, poetry in translation and short fiction.
