Silence
Silence is magnanimous, but it only gives to those who do not ask. Question it and all is lost. It holds secrets beyond price, but it yields them up only to those who wait with hands ready to receive but without demanding gifts.
One such man was standing beside a waterfall listening to the silence that could be heard beyond the rush of water. His head became filled with lakes and the water that flowed through his mind carried him to a very distant, very beautiful country from which he has never returned.
Another watched trees being felled and listened to the silences between the axe blows and the crashing of the trees. His head became filled with foliage, behind which he hid and from which he has never emerged.
Silence is magnanimous, but its gifts carry with them certain dangers for those unaccustomed to such levels of generosity. Some, therefore, ask in order not to receive.
