Irras Han
The Arrival
In a country where the trains are always on time
the uncertainty about her arrival
overruled the official timetable.
Piercing through the thin mist
a distant dot grew rapidly in size
then in length, slithered around the final turn.
The accelerated birth of a steel snake
terminated with a confetti of noises
and a hiss.
The hydraulic door slid open,
freeing a pocket of foreign air
from another city. The latest her
is brought to you
in a metal box.
In the gathering light she smiles
and surveys the stage, counting the props:
the flower-stuffed fields
that authenticate spring
and you.
To convey her exact dimensions,
she steps forward and kisses you lightly,
sowing small apocalypses on your lips.
Above you the ravens build and rebuild helixes -
carcasses live in all seasons.
