He answered man in miracles
the purposeless play of a child
breaking that sulking silence
was it folly, then, to tempt His ear
with gobbets of a new polari?
or wiser to accept God dumb
and aim your words at men?
Caedmon lived in an age of saints
and wished it an age of prophets
the blessing of naivety
blazed in a dark landscape
the blind would see and the lame walk
and men, of course, would listen
