Ropes
I loved you, I suppose, from the moment when,
Watching the old man and the young man
Take ropes from round about the belly
Of the haywaggon, you whispered,
“See how the old man coils and curls his rope
And brings it straight to hand,
While the young man leaves his ungathered,
A slack pool on the yard,”
Looking down at the rope I had wasted,
Even then unwilling to take it up
And make a neatness of it for your sake.
