My Grandson
It’s not altogether a comedy
this sudden invasion of presto agitato
when William Jack gets into bed with me.
The point is he’s well over three:
and a wriggling child in bed as all grandparents know
is not altogether a comedy.
Moreover he comes in so very early,
I’m half awake and altogether low
when William Jack gets into bed with me.
And, since juvenile anatomy
consists exclusiveIy of heel, knee, and elbow
it’s not altogether a comedy.
His movements are like a charge of cavalry;
and yet the warmest feelings flow
when William Jack gets into bed with me.
So I shall treasure the memory
once he’s grown up and gone. But now, heigh-ho!
