the chalk-smudged moon
sinking in
the river
ripples where her feet fall.
walking into in front of her
the past keeps up
a shadow she can't shake
silent footsteps
follow her
along the street
they ring out.
stalking.
to stop is to acknowledge
her violation.
10 years running
from repressed memories
distancing herself
from herself
from eight years old
half-dressed bruised
from silence that
swallowed her up from
screamed in her head
dirty
skin scoured in the shower
she can't get clean.
blood let
to drain impurities.
run away
in reinforced rooms
escapes she makes in herself
bright red gaping
crying out
like newborn mouths.
dawn sets in
stars roll from her eyes
and shatter her reflection.
