Making up my Mind
Today I shall be pale and interesting.
The faintest trace of peach silk on my eyes
offset by smoky brown, a shadowing,
and light touch of mascara (bronze moonrise).
Easy on the blusher (russet glow)
and Bedouin gold for lips that will not flirt.
French polished nails (the effort must not show),
Holly Golightly hair, a soft silk shirt.
A hint of perfume of champagne to float
around me, subtle as the rain-wet grass.
A practised smile, reticent, with a note
of melancholy implied as I pass.
Today the mirror will show charm and grace
to hide the poisoned soul behind the face.
