True Love of Mine

We hold hands in his jeans pocket.
I can smell the oil on his quiff,
his leather jacket.
Last night we slept in my college bed,
craving each other like chocolate.
The ten o' clock rule made us nervous.
We'd cleared a space in the wardrobe
under my skirts.
We woke late, cramped, exhausted;
fried bacon, slapped it between
dry slices of Mother's Pride.
Next time let's have HP sauce, he said.
Now we wander round Woolworths
looking for Lancashire Tasty to grate on toast
but they haven't heard of it in Oxfordshire.
Tonight he'll hitch back North
but we'll make love one more time
on the green counterpane,
the only chair wedged under the door handle,
Dylan on the Dansette.
