nouvelle vague
I opened a book of magic,
I disobeyed the silver mean
standard of my grey hair
bespectacled fathers,
prised its golden locket open
with clumsy unkempt fingers.
All best things that are mine
are anybody's, can't be told,
were their own common knowledge,
just, until spoiled in speaking.
I could not read that golden book.
It bled me pain each word,
and had I learned to try to learn
in somebody's dictionary terms
the meaning of the content of
its meaning, the clasp of that
logic would have snapped and
broken. I just saw pictures,
magic pictures, and know as I
try to learn to try again
to pick up their silver-thread vision,
the twin edge stylus of my
grey hair bespectacled fathers,
my truth's its own only token.
therefore my voluntary silence,
love of gold and magic pictures,
lack of poetic diction.
Therefore the death of the fathers,
my shaking fingers, double vision
settled alone in singleblind belief,
this obstinate illiteracy.
