We didn’t mean to swim out this far,
we didn’t mean to leave at night, this far

que me vienen persiguiendo por la tierra, this far
y por el mar...in the distance, the cityscape, this far

a mere speck, vanishing in memory, this far,
a horizon we left behind, an in-between left this far,

the sky becomes a powder-keg of illusions out this far,
a blanket, a vanishing like that of a black cave, this far,

at the fatal hour, the drowned begin to sing a song, this far
out of dead mouths-blue, swollen limbs, membrane eyes, this far

we didn’t mean to reach this far, Díos mio, we didn’t mean this far,
become so few this far, in the distance the world is a gray thing, this far

that beckons us to go farther, but here we are lost on the crests of waves,
                                                                                                 this far.
Who-what remains this far? Night. Day. Who knows the hour? Who knows
                                                                                                   this far?

Who knows these distances? Us, the voiceless, though here we are, this
                                                                                                      far,
almost tranquil and at peace now, this far, we didn’t expect to reach this
                                                                                           far, this far.
