Time Proof
Memory paints it on so smooth that
first layer of gloss
on my pubescent, eager mouth.
Imagination safely secures the tube
- brassy, but then good
as gold, to me -
and again I gentle it erect to coax
the colour up into its flower
a honeydew pink, perhaps, or
a lip-smacking red.
Memory can play its tricks,
so did that smudge-proof, kiss-proof stick
of cosmetic sophistication
then circle the nipple of each breast?
Scrawl, across the mirror
of my imagination, Look At Me!
I had started to obscure
so much, with that first layer of gloss
on my pubescent, eager mouth.
