Saturday Blues
Cask ale houses
Mingle on busy streets
With occasional offish louts
Who drink from their thirsty spouts.
While I, on pavement floor
Sit, taking in the Saturday crowd
All spruced up and Hampstead proud.
Cinnamon rolls and lipstick coffee cups,
Wait patiently as patrons demure to see
What's in it for them but not me?
Wrapped safely in logo bags of plenty
While my stomach inside is empty.
I've walked down from my hide on the Heath
To smell the loveliness of ladies
Sitting outdoors in their Jimmy Choo's
On seats reserved
For the well-to-do's.
I've tried with distain to walk
With my rucksack slung and a copy of Keats
And a penny sewed in trouser pleats.
'I'll bloody well tell them'
Under my breath
Where justice for me
Is a glare and a stare
At 'how dare he'
Of all days
When we're off for the weekend
