Leg room
Tall, dark and decent - a Ford Model T in the garage
good girls' marriage material
handsome in a mother's favourite son sort of way -
flat cap (see Barbour bottle green)
tweed jacket (see aping father big in butchery)
for the present carrying no extra flesh
and all flesh tanned and healthy
still enjoys hearty rugger fun -
beer drinking but not every night
and never too much the company of women
and all in all not too much of a Lad however
privately nurtures a hankering for bottle blondes
with mucky feet - skinny girls whose bones
shine white through grey flesh -
in fact finds just the job -
bleached hair - black roots - clogged mascara
how he loves her - loves to shag her
hear her boney shoulder blades rat-tat against garage door
as his own trim rump, bump, thump, bumps the car bonnet -
but it can't be done - necessary
to marry a girl called Pamela
whose mother's big on the Town Council -
Mucky Feet falls by the wayside - the last image
he has - MF sitting on a messy kitchen table
god knows where this is - she's peeling old potatoes,
bare thighs streaked with brown potato water -
somehow he recollects he went straight
from this incident to taking Pam into his garage to show her
the car and she'd said Not much leg room Ian darling
