Book V, epigram 210, BC, The Greek Anthology: today
I have made a number of versions
of a favourite poem in classical Greek
referring often with photographs
to contemporary African women
models, loves
Going beyond the respectably poetic
I recognise the mention
of coals afire like bright red roses
focuses the vision on African women’s
inner lip sexes
I believe in honesty even absolutely
so I asked a gorgeous woman who
had modelled for one version of the poem
to come for non-facial poses —
genital portraits
The suggestion like the actions
lit her up sharply turned her on
in black and white images like
black and white words the bright red
sights can be seen
not only in imagination
a life of poetry
