Searching
Night falls
like you slip into my head.
I smell the scent of something late.
You're curled into yourself
like paper when it burns
and a hundred black moths are flying
to the moon.
The seven o'clock spices are simmering.
I know I've walked along these alleys before.
I want to tell you about this return
but you're blinded
by my repetition.
So
I'll wait until tomorrow
and we'll go out to the hills
where the black bulls flare and bellow.
We'll stoop like priests in the autumn fields
searching for small pieces
of oblivion.
