Helen notices symptoms
hopes they will go away.
Waits three weeks
tells the doctor.
At the next visit, one month later,
she is referred to hospital.
Another kind of waiting starts
now for an appointment
with the surgeon.
It comes quite soon, only three weeks ahead.
He orders further tests.
After some hesitation
she decides to tell her family.
She has two dates now, both in the next few weeks.
Half-wishes she did not know
the meaning of oncology.
Meanwhile she wonders:
Is it worth seeing the optician
about new glasses?
