THE RED BALCONY
Quiet roofs.
calm surfaces:
across an indolent
blue, a bunting
of fresh linocuts
warms and dries.
BLUEBELLS
These delicately drooping flowers,
swaying to the slightest breeze,
are perennial and abundant on
hilly pastures and heaths. The
notes are an inconspicuous
pale blue.
INTERIOR
Arrange the room
in shadow,
that on a vase of daffodils
a glance might fall
impartially
as a sunbeam.
WINDOW
Light reflected,
branches framed,
storms deflected,
change contained.
SORROW
A cooling plant of the fields
and waysides, having something
of the acidity of lemons.
MEADOW
Let light
loosen the mind's
clenched fist,
the five senses
fit like fingers
into the warm glove
of the world.
