Amazing to learn from BS 12/2 (Stephen Gill’s article) that there are two popular television programmes devoted to haiku in Japan. What a change from our own tedious and trivial game and quiz shows that seem to be spreading like some malevolent virus. Our only comparison is poetry readings on radio that, while pleasant enough in themselves, rarely seem to get the pulse racing and are all too often repetition of old favourites remembered from one’s schooldays.
