Light Shows in August
i
What colours the mind
Is. Or is it grey?
Death-colour one morning stands in rain
No, not even death in the rain
Just standing. Grey.
Whence the water-gurgles? Christ a man,
Blue spark, short-circuits somewhere each of wiring.
The lightning goes on and still the lamps
Damn for not dying as they should.
Christ man stand in rain
This morning,
All morning, colours of morning — not black:
A blind man mad as moths for seeing grey
Begins. His mind colours.

Break!
There’s all these birds out there
And it won’t break.
Watch; throw butts. They never budge much.
Ever seen robins become the universe?
iii
The hairs! the hairs!
Ah! thou pluckest me —
I smelled autumn last night:
It’s August in Vancouver, and I don’t know
What autumn smells like.
Thou pluckest. whothoueverbe, the short hairs baby.
Pain. Real pain.
