to attempt to force the thing too far
Critical distance [qualified the title] illustrate how such notating was grist to the creative mill
(If you have the space) the exclusion of most of the previously included quotes seemed to be shutting the piece down...
think about which quotes it might be useful to keep. In fact - very few - I think on the whole the shorter version works well.
So I've put most of them back in!
Of course this is up to you. It might be useful to keep... - (i), (ii), (iii).
