Sedge Warbler
Can't quite see him
spin-flipping, malm
through willow lace
the flavour of charm
Too small for finch,
large for a wren
I catch his wisp
now and then,
sprung by the fault line
in my concentration
he ghosts on the tilt
of vision,
an event horizon
unreachable but there,
the breeze of absence
hint of blur
I know what he looks like
from images of hearsay
but cannot cage his Dasein
in any conceptual way
though I can hear his
brittle canticle
in the convolution,
this alpha particLE
calling
like a beacon in space,
a hymn of contiquity
for those at the interface.
I listen
till the venal hawk swoops
the song to sky
and my eyes roost.
