One of the things
One of the things which each morning
recalls me to the world of roofs
is the opposite house reflected
in the opaque glass of my window
opened by womanly hands
and set against the frame like a mirror;
frontage is followed by frontage
yellow succeeds upon yellow
interrupted by the green of an awning
from the flank of a wall in full sunlight
like a house in Delft, but here each morning:
a simple announcement of the creation,
the azure’s less disinhabited now.
