Shona Marshall
The World of Winter
Flies milling around in the winter breeze,
A spider hanging from its silvery domain,
Frost drops barnacled the dry rot roof of the barn house,
A donkey inside glad of its protection from the windy weather,
Pigs in groups huddling together snorting their annoyance at the
door,
The fence is sprawled across a field,
The farmers wife tut-tutting at the farm,
Nightfall like a shadow over them,
Animals laying their heads down to sleep,
The farmer and his wife climbing into bed,
Closing the curtains,
Shutting out the world of winter.
