Outline of a script
A wet, thundery afternoon.
We shelter under a 300-year-old elm
in Goff’s field. I tell you about
Dioscorus, a legendary ruler in Asia Minor,
who beheaded his daughter for going against his will.
Soon afterwards he was struck dead by lightening.
You announce that you love someone else,
impressively erudite,
your hands voluble as a Cretan’s,
my absurd meanderings no intimacy of mood.
Soon you move homewards, thunder rolling out
basso profundo, I remembering
the aforesaid daughter in time became the patron saint
of protection against thunder and lightening,
as lightening strikes. And strikes again,
your figure moving on its measured ellipse
testing the legend,
my thoughts inching from bland to somewhat swinish.
