Cistercian Studies
Just when I thought I was free of my virus,
(God), Saint Bernard smiled at me.
I was out in Flanders testing the beer
and it seemed the anxious years were over:
I had Nietzsche in my pocket like a charm.
Herv6 mentioned another estaminet
where they keep excellent Trappist,
rightly enough opposite the Trappists,
which is where I found Saint Bernard
when I called in as a tourist to their chapel.
He smiled from behind a veil of candlelight.
Yes, I brought up the Second Crusade,
even showed him my Amnesty plastic,
probably got one or two references wrong,
but made every case I could.
He just kept smiling, making it clear
that on some level things could work out,
that meanwhile I could go and play.
I bought some de Ranc6 in the monastery shop.
Hervé had the drinks in. The beer was good.
