small press scene
a round-up of all small press publications (and a good many not-so-small press publications) received since second aeon 18. the aim of this section has been to provide an information coverage, large enough to be significant, for use by anyone involved in this area of activity. in the past "the small press scene" has attempted a qualitative judgement on all material received but the sheer bulk of review copies arriving has prevented this happening in all cases. all material, however, has at least a descriptive mention. my thanks are to poet & critic john tripp who has again helped out, and whose initials appear at the end of each entry for which he is responsible and to barry edgar pilcher who has written on two items. all other comments are my own responsibility. with the demise of the american magazine trace and now the demise of second aeon we are without a continuing and comprehensive small press & poetry round up. in the knowledge that review copies will continue to arrive here for some time to come i have joined forces with peter hodgkiss' poetry information in an attempt to expand that magazine to plug the gap. publishers are invited to continue sending review copies to second aeon's address for review / mention in poetry information. they will also be of use in the compilation of my regular uk small press column which will appear in the american magazine margins and in my selection of items to be sold in the oriel bookshop. i would like to thank the many publishers who have taken advertizing space in this issue in order that second aeon might go out with a bang. these people's publications are worth buying.
a few further notes. the association of little presses, the trade organization for small publishers produces a regular & informative newsletter. subscriptions are £1.50 and should be sent to the treasurer, peter finch, 3 maplewood court, maplewood avenue, cardiff, cf4 2nb. the ALP catalogue of small press publications has been hit by almost every bug in the business but should be out by the time this issue of second aeon comes into your hands. copies may be obtained @ 50p from the national book league, 7 albemarle street, london w1. the ALP has also produced a small informative pamphlet for new poets "getting your poetry published", copies of this are obtainable from second aeon @ 5p plus 3p postage or bulk copies may be ordered at special rates, available on application.
