Ruth Pink
the blind boy paints a rocket
the world is written
on a constellation of pinheads
which needle the thumb’s
firm pad of flesh
having a grip on a stick
with bristles
like coarse dog’s hair
after reading
in this way
is the relief of
a mind dancing
I KNOW:
the borders of paint and page
that the sky is taller than the ceiling
red is autumn, leaves cracking
blue is cold deep water
together they make purple
silver is metal with grains of sand
and strikes across the paper’s edges
THIS IS A MACHINE AGAINST THE WIND
