I Threw My Life
I threw my life
Into the freedom
Of gypsy living.
Tasting fruit
That warned me
Of the heat.
I threw study away
For a one-way ticket
To the dunes
Of Gran Canaria.
For a slow sweat
In a tomato plantation.
Where I was taught
To waste time.
Beneath a cloudless sky,
Effortless for illusion,
I slid into siesta
Waking to twilit palms.
Within the sanctuary
Of each sunset
I caught what
I had thrown.
