Found wounded and alone
on the platform of El Pozo railway station
Patricia died
at the Hospital of the Child Jesus in Madrid
the day after the bomb
blew her out of her mother’s warm arms
the day of Archangel Michael
patron saint of paramedics
security guards, ambulance drivers
and Spanish police officers.
She had not learnt her native language, Polish
nor her adopted one, Spanish
but Patricia knew how to smile
and show off her new tooth.
