Astronomy is the science of silent change,
creeping cyclones,
quiet whorls,
galaxies soundproofed by light, light-years
arriving late after the big bang
condensed milk into paste,
maelstrom, supernova, eccentricity
corrected by gravity
healed into a planet
into the folds in rock thick
with fossil ammonites and cephlapods,
weather systems,
woodgrain,
sea-shells,
fingerprints,
your nacreous body
and northern hemisphere way of curling up beside me.
