In Warm Summer Pubs
Young men talk politics and art in warm summer pubs
their smoky words fade but leave no stubs
to burn holes in cosy irrelevance.
Furtive leers strike out at bare brown bits
and imagine the whiteness of sun hidden tits.
Erections are built on suspense.
Fostering cans of last ordered take outs
the streets resound to philosophical shouts.
Girls like an intellectual prick..
So smoking something against the law
the discussion continues on the bedroom floor
until all the young men are sick.
Terribly impressed the girls clear up the mess
comforting the heroes in their distress
soothing their serious, aching heads
yet liking them more for really being fools,
than for the drivel learnt not in life but from schools,
and loving them for looking like babes in their beds.
