Ache
When my mouth was sore (that badly-
done extraction where my gum
was left with root snapped off inside),
my trouble troubled them:
she said, ‘Keep touching it, quite lightly,
with your tongue-tip, in the place
it hurts’. But he said, ‘That’s no good -
this kind of pain, it’s just a case
of leaving it. Do nothing -
it’ll sort itself out, then’.
His method worked. Or hers, perhaps.
My dentist, pushing a needle in
to drill me somewhere else, asks, ‘How
long’s this been here?’ and hooks it out.
I keep some other things, ones
no one’s told me what to do about.
