I am sad. He is trying to save the big tree.
There’s a caption in the local paper this
week, and a photo of a man ( a town council-
lor he knows) standing spreadeagled against
the massive trunk. Which has, he writes,
more than a thirty foot girth, and he says
that the big tree was probably alive when
Jesus Christ walked the Earth. And for the
time being, until the big tree is officially
protected, he cannot give its whereabouts.
But I know where the big tree is. It’s on
overgrown and forgotten land, and I had for-
gotten about it. In fact, not many people
knew of its existence until now. And now, I
am sad...

the revvs upped
blue smoke
the wood-chips flying.
