In this little room with all the lights on
What do you mean love is immeasurable?
You can measure anything
commodity, solidify, sanctify
okay, I may be contradicting myself
but I am the one responding to a voice
I cannot see even in this little room
with all the lights on.
I’m listening, I’m listening
but you seem to have nothing left to say
not even tidbits of condemnation
morsels of madness—
or should it be tidbits of madness
and morsels of condemnation?
Finally, silence,
or the approximation of silence
(I don’t want to be greedy)
I’ll ask myself questions
that let you off the hook
even if I’m apprehensive
about what I’ll say
and will get everything wrong
just like yesterday.
