Discovering Pluto
We're plotting combined trajectories,
while seeking an accidental planet.
X marks the spot that we cannot see,
though you give us clues. "The sky is clear"
you say vehemently, "there's nothing in view,
and we're all fine here." Now you've little time
for talking to me. Your orbit was always
eccentric, like mine. You and I share a lack
of gravity, and numerous scars
after splitting-off from fiery comets
too hastily. You never speak
about her any more, except you wish
she was back at school. Exploding stars
breed potentially hazardous asteroids,
blocking our way. You're locked inside
your story now. But one telescope,
has picked up a shadow resembling your daughter -
that small supernova - dim and withdrawn
all day in the house, while you're asleep.
So I'm linking with you in cyberspace,
as we're pulling in more telescopes,
to find what's hidden, and draw you in
to our solar system - before it's too late.
